Hello, my name is Doron Bruns. I am trying to help my sister Sumer, her fiancé Trevor, and their family by reaching out and asking for help. Their daughter Magnolia needs open-heart surgery to fix two defects within her heart. She has a severe case of VSD and a primary valve defect.

VSD stands for Ventricular Septal Defect. It is a congenital heart defect where there is an opening (hole) in the wall (septum) that separates the two lower chambers of the heart; the left and right ventricles.

Magnolia has a very severe case that makes her need surgery as soon as November 4th, 2025. The surgery involves the surgeon making an incision down the breastbone to access the heart. Using a heart-lung machine to temporarily take over the function of the heart and lungs, allowing the surgeon to operate on the still, unmoving heart. The surgeon will then close the hole between the ventricles with a patch the size of a dime. Then, they will have to jump-start the primary valve to help the valve defect get corrected, also.

Recovery includes staying at the hospital for at least a week for the surgeon to keep an eye on the heart, and then it will take 3+ months for Magnolia to fully recover.

Mom and dad need all the help. They have been doing all they can to stay above water with all of the bills, and with all of the appointments that they have needed to go to so far, and all of the time taken off of work to make sure they're at those appointments too. Life is getting harder, and Sumer will have to take some time off from work to be at Magnolia’s side while she heals. With Sumer's job being so new, she does not qualify for FMLA benefits. Trevor will continue to work, but a household cannot survive on just one income, especially under these circumstances. Sumer has been on such a great path in her life these past 3+ years, and she tries very hard not to ask for help. So, I am asking for help on her and Trevor’s behalf.

I have not spoken about Magnolia needing surgery because I don't know what to say and wish I could make this all go away, but that's not possible.
