I am beyond devastated that I have to write this, but in just a few short weeks, our sister Maggie’s entire life was completely shattered by a cruel phone scam. Maggie lost most of her life savings, and I’m sharing her story in hopes of helping her rebuild her life.

Beginning October 2nd 2025, Maggie was blackmailed by professional fraudsters who pretended to be the Canadian and Chinese police and used extreme intimidation and fear tactics to gain access to her financial accounts. They threatened to have her deported to China if she disobeyed or told anyone about what was happening. By the time she finally realized she had been tricked and reached out for help about her situation, it was too late, huge savings had been transferred away.

That money was most of her savings, the result of over 20 years of hard and honest work since immigrating to Canada. It also included all the funds from selling her family home, which she believed would protect her and her daughter’s future. In a few short weeks it was all taken from her. Maggie relies entirely on herself financially. Watching her carry this loss has been heartbreaking.

While the financial loss is unimaginable, the emotional toll has been just as heavy. She lost her sense of safety, stability, and trust. Still, she gets up every day and tries to keep going, doing her best to continue to support her daughter.

We are creating this fundraiser because no one should ever have to endure something this cruel. The money raised will help Maggie cover her basic living expenses, housing stability, and recovery and legal costs.
