Help Maggie May Walk Again
Donation protected
***Update: Since yesterday, Maggie has started to regain some motor function and feeling in her legs. We were able to speak with and schedule an appointment for a third opinion with another local vet—someone we heard had success treating a dog in a similar situation.
There are still many unknowns, but there’s now a possibility that Maggie may not need surgery to recover. However, she will still require care such as CT scans, MRI, possible spinal injections, physical therapy, and more.
We’ve updated our fundraising goal accordingly and will continue to adjust it as we learn more about Maggie’s path to recovery.
Thank you to everyone who has shared, donated, and reached out with support. We’re continuing to pray for Maggie’s healing and hoping she won’t need extensive surgery!
Hi everyone,
On April 29th, our Frenchie, Maggie May, started experiencing some lameness in her rear legs and was in extreme pain. We had her at our primary vet that morning; however, Maggie's spinal issues quickly progressed, and in less than 24 hours, she became almost completely paralyzed with no motor function from her mid-back down, and little to no feeling in her rear legs. She is unable to stand or walk and has become incontinent as well.
On April 30th, we took her to our local emergency vet hospital where they did neural and physical exams to diagnose her with a herniated disc, requiring surgery to fix. The surgery she requires is complex and would cost $10,000. We got quotes from multiple surgeons that are able to do this type of surgery, and we were quoted $7k-$10k for the surgery alone by everywhere we spoke with. With Maggie's rapid progression, they are worried about further and irreversible spinal cord and nerve damage, so it is a rather pressing matter, and how quickly we can get her the care she needs has a lot to do with her outcome. There is a 93% success rate with the surgery.
Unfortunately, with our growing family, my fiancé and I are not in a position to afford the surgery and care she needs in order to recover from this. As much as we love her and do not want to give her up, we are putting her needs first and did consider surrendering her to a place that would be willing and able to get her the care she needs, but with such high costs, every rescue we spoke to said she would unfortunately be euthanized. Maggie is only 2 years old and has so much life ahead of her. She was our first baby and is our family. We love her so much, and we want to do whatever we possibly can to give her the best possible chance at living a full and healthy life and not have to put our baby down over not being able to afford costs.
If you have made it this far, we are asking for donations in order to get this possibly life-saving surgery for our Maggie. Any amount helps. And if you are not able to donate, sharing our page and our story would mean the world. Thank you all ❤️
