Hey there, humans! I'm Maggie, a creative writer and independent scholar based in New Bedford, Massachusetts. I have been accepted into the first Sister City Arts Program connecting New Bedford and Horta, Faial, Portugal. This residencial program runs from January 23rd to February 1st, with travel days on either side. The total cost of the program is $3200, plus airfare and insurance. I am hoping to offset the cost of this program as much as possible.

What will I be doing in Faial? Good question. My goal for this residency is to write the first draft of a novella/novel (not sure how long it will end up being) inspired by Portuguese folklore, including the peeira and moura encantada . Essentially, the question becomes, what happens when the two folk tale women meet? The ultimate goal for this story is publication, but in the meantime, it will be presented both at the end of the residency alongside the other artists' work and at the Co-Creative Center in New Bedford in March.
