Help CSU’s MAGE Quartet Travel to ITEC 2025

Hello!

We are the Columbus State University’s MAGE Quartet! In June of 2025, we are traveling to Valencia, Spain to attend the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference (ITEC 2025). During this event, our very own Evan O’Dell, a senior music composition student, will be presenting a lecture on new compositional developments in contemporary tuba-euphonium solos and chamber repertoire. In this lecture, the MAGE Quartet, and additional performers, will be performing Evan’s very own “Fountain City Counterpoint,” conducted by Dr. Alex Avila. Evan has also been selected to compete in the avante-garde solo competition!

Additionally, we have been selected to compete in the chamber ensemble competition. This ensemble is comprised of 2 euphonium students and 2 tuba students. We are working hard to ensure we will perform our program at its highest level!

ITEC 2025 will allow us to interact and listen to the greatest tuba and euphonium musicians in the world. This experience will provide us with educational experiences, performance opportunities, and professional connections. During this event, we will be able to watch many recitals, masterclasses, presentations, perform in competitions, and test a variety of equipment.

The members of the quartet have never been outside of the country, so this experience will be very valuable and life-altering. Experiencing the musical culture that Spain has to offer will be a major educational experience. As American music students, witnessing other cultures' pedagogical standpoints and musical traditions will help shape us into more inclusive and understanding musicians. Additionally, we will have a chance to perform for a large audience of people who will have never heard us live!

The cost of this trip is quite immense! Traveling internationally as a group with large equipment is a daunting task, but with your help, we will make it happen. The quartet is working diligently on the preparation needed for this trip and the costly expenses we will face . We hope you can help us make this summer a memorable experience!
