Maestro was born a survivor, with a zest for life enjoying playing tag outside in the pasture with other foals and people. However, since our beloved Maestro has been 4 months old, he has required emergency care and as many of you know, little Maestro is no stranger to the veterinary emergency clinic.
During the summer of 2025, with excellent veterinary care, and his willingness to accept all the constraints including wearing equine goggles 24/7, he recovered with full vision from a severe eye injury, spending nearly a semester at Cornell Veterinary Hospital.
Maestro recovered from that but on November 30, 2025, while just being a weanling with his buddies, sustained a horrific injury involving his left shoulder resulting in complete shoulder paralysis. He lost all use and feeling in his left front leg.
Maestro has always been one to communicate and from the beginning he let us know he wanted to live. Team Maestro began his physical therapy and treatment which has been ongoing for several months. This coupled with his prior expenses has exceeded anything one could imagine.
Mighty Maestro as we now call him, has gone from non weight baring and a full leg cast, to regenerating the nerves in his left shoulder, to learning to walk again, to walking, trotting and galloping outside on turn out. He has come incredibly far, but he is not done with the healing which could be several more months, along with surgery.
I am one who keeps things close to the vest but I am reaching out to all of you for help with this one. Maestro needs time, patience, prayers and on ongoing veterinary care and physical therapy if he has the best chance of recovery.
With Gratitude,
Team Maestro
