Help Maeby get her double total hip replacement
Donation protected
Hello everyone. Our names are Paxton and Laurel, and we are asking for help with our 1 year old chocolate lab named Maeby. At her annual check up on January 18th, we found out that she has severe hip dysplasia in both of her hips. So much so that both sides will require a total hip replacement. Her activity is being limited already, and the vet would like us to have the surgery scheduled as soon as possible, but of course nothing happens as soon as we'd like it to. She's a great candidate given her age (1 year) and her health, but she will be on light duty for another 2 months before they can see her. Below is a picture of one of her X-rays. I've also included a few pictures for comparison.

We are devastated.. We've fallen in love with her. She is energetic, vivacious, sassy, so playful, and to top it off she may be the sweetest dog we've ever met. She gets along with everyone she meets, humans and animals alike. Paxton and I waited many years to get a dog of our own, so whoever joined our family would come at a time when we were prepared to give them all the time and love they deserve. We wanted a dog who didn't live most of their life in a kennel. Maeby's life has been the opposite of that up until recently. She had countless hikes and walks around town and throughout the mountains close to our home. She loves playing in sprinklers, pools, lakes, and any mud puddle she comes across. Maeby also loves the snow, and would happily romp through 6 inches of snow all day. We've had puppy play dates, puppy birthdays, and dog park days. She has been a wonderful addition to our family. That is why the news we were given was so difficult to hear.
We're both employed and working full-time at great jobs that allow for flexibility. We are both working as much as possible to save as much as possible. Paxton recently received clearance to start doing more of the things he loves after rupturing his kidney and breaking a few ribs last year. This incurred substantial medical debt.. We were anticipating a summer of camping, swimming, and playing together. Neither of us expected she would need this intensive of an operation. The orthopedic vet is estimating that each hip replacement will cost $6,500-$6,700, for a grand total of over $13,000 at the end of both hip replacements. The sooner we operate the better off she will be.
Ultimately in our minds we don't have a choice. Maeby needs help to live the life she deserves. Maeby deserves to run and play for years to come. Maeby will get a double hip replacement. We are prepared to sacrifice whatever it takes to take care of our dog. The reason why we're asking for help here is perhaps an obvious one. It would be nothing short of a miracle to be able to keep everyone fed and housed while she undergoes the necessary procedures. We are asking for help not only for our Maeby baby, but for Paxton and I. Anything will help, everything will be appreciated. If you can't donate, sharing this helps just as much. We couldn't be more grateful to be surrounded by gracious human beings. Most of whom would be hard pressed to love either Paxton or myself more than Maeby. We want her to run and play. With your help we could avoid serious debt to get her there.
