Help Madison Hollingshed beat Aplastic Anemia/PNH
Donation protected
This GoFundMe is being setup for a 14 year old girl from Athens, GA named Madison Hollingshed who was recently diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia and Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria. I’ve been a very close friend of her father, Adrian for almost 21 years and so I’ve decided to setup this fund in order to raise awareness and money to assist with medical costs and necessary ongoing expenses with Madison’s chronic condition. Below is her father Adrian’s experience with Madison’s journey:
Madison’s story began on January 15, 2019 after prior months of having several occasions with weakness and very low hemoglobin requiring blood transfusions. Madison underwent testing and was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia and Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria. This is very rare because Madison has two forms making it much more difficult to treat-usually doctors see one case in children every three years.
It has been a long journey thus far. We were told that the only option for survival for Madison would be a bone marrow transplant and we were also racing against the clock because with each transfusion her chances of survival decreased . Our family joined “Be the Match Foundation” to search for a donor; four matches were found, but as Madison’s health continued to decline we were devastated to find out that for different reasons none of the matches would be able to donate. We had only one option left: Haploidentical Transplantation. This procedure is a half-matched bone marrow transplant that has been successful in “curing” patients of various cancers and blood disorders. Madison’s Mom and I were both tested to determine who would be the most suitable candidate for her. Madison underwent chemotherapy and radiation to prepare her body for the transplant. The bone marrow tests on May 8th determined that I would be a 50% match, so of course I felt blessed by God and honored to be able to donate the bone marrow that would help save my daughter’s life. The bone marrow transplant took place for Madison on May 10, 2019. She has been given a second chance at life; she is such a fighter and has kept a positive attitude along the way. I am so proud of her!!
There will continue to be peaks and valleys along the way for Madison and my family as there is with any chronic condition and such a rare blood disorder. Since the transplant, Madison has been in and out of the hospital and recently developed Graft versus Host Disease. In response to this, the doctors are managing this with medications and she is continually improving. Though, the next year will be the most vulnerable period. I’ve been so thankful and so blessed to have had the support and help from my family and closest friends. My wife Shaun especially has been so helpful in maintaining everything while I’m away during such a tense time which has really made everything possible. I also want to thank my family, coworkers and close friends for helping out in any way needed.
God Bless,
Adrian
In addition to the continuous hospital and medical bills for Madison’s medication, Adrian’s frequent travel expenses going between his home in Georgia and Madison’s home in Florida with her mother has become extremely costly. If you feel compelled to assist Madison and Adrian please donate.
Thanks,
