Help Madi Rebuild after Tragic Loss
Donation protected
I’m sponsoring this for a dear friend's daughter: Madi, daughter of Amy Skubi. My heart breaks for this kind-hearted special 26 year old widow.
Madi and Adam met in the summer of 2016 in San Antonio when Adam was in the US Marine Corp. Their long distance relationship included Madi’s internship at the San Antonio Zoo and biology college degree in 2017 before she moved to DC where Adam was stationed at the Pentagon. They were married in the fall of 2019 and finally enjoyed a delayed honeymoon (due to Covid) in 2021, weeks before the tragedy.
Adam was brilliant and smart, having graduated with his HS diploma at age 17 and joined the US Marine Corps at age 18. He was stationed in Okinawa for 5 years and then transferred to the Pentagon for his remaining years with the Marines. He became a Military Police, MP in the Marine Corp and received many accolades for his service of valor, including PREA certified. He left the Marine Corps in October of 2020 as a disabled veteran to move back home to North Carolina to be closer to his ailing father. As a civilian, he worked in the jail system as an officer in Asheville. He was passionate about the prison system and prison reform and had just decided to get his degree using his military GI Bill benefits. He was set to start school in January, 2022.
Madi and Adam have always been minimalists in nature. They are all about conservation and love all 2 legged and 4 legged creatures. They have rescued 2 dogs and 2 cats named Sophie - pit bull mix, Lyla - tabby cat, Cash - Tree Walker Coonhound and the newest addition just a week before Adam’s accident Wanda - a black kitten.
On December 18, 2021, Adam was in a tragic car accident on his way home after picking up a pizza for him and Madi who was on her way home from work. They lived 90 mins from Asheville and both would drive that long trek for work. It was dusk and the roads were wet and foggy. Adam hit a slick spot in the road, lost control and hit a tree.
Since Adam had just left his civilian job at the Asheville prison to go back to school, he didn’t have life insurance. As an upcoming student, he would have received VA benefits including tuition and monthly stipend. Madi works part-time at the Nature Center in Asheville as a hoof-stock keeper, so she doesn’t have insurance. She is not eligible for his social security or VA benefits as spousal support since they didn’t have any dependents.
All donations will be used to help Madi start all over with her life as a widow at age 26: daily bills for healthcare, groceries, paying rent and gas to and from work.
Thank you soo much!
