Hi everyone,
My name is Elizabeth, and I’m writing on behalf of my dear friend, Madi, someone who is kind, strong, and never hesitates to brighten the lives of those around her. Today, I’m asking for your support as she navigates a terrifying and painful medical journey that none of us could have seen coming.
In April, Madi started feeling pain in her hand after simple tasks like cooking, showering, just living her normal life. By early June, the pain had worsened and her hand had become cold, pale, and weak. During a doctor’s visit, they couldn’t even get a blood pressure reading in her arm and rushed her to the ER.
Madi was diagnosed with a serious blood clot in her arm. She went into emergency surgery that day to remove it. The surgery seemed successful until the clot came back. Doctors in Eugene recommended amputation. But Madi and Connor were not giving up.
After a second request, OHSU, one of the top hospitals in the country, agreed to take her. At 1am, Madi was life-flighted by helicopter to Portland.
From there, things moved fast. Surgeons discovered that Madi had a rare condition called Arterial Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (A-TOS) caused by an extra cervical rib in her neck that had fused with her first rib and was crushing a major artery.
Since then, Madi has undergone:
Four major surgeries in less than a week
Removal of an extra rib and part of her first rib
Two arterial bypass surgeries — one using a vein from her right leg, and later another from her left
Emergency clot removals from her arm and armpit
Significant blood loss and post-op complications
She is now finally stable and in recovery. She ate for the first time in days and is beginning to regain her spirit and strength, which is so like Madi. Even in pain, she’s still thinking and asking about others, and showing how resilient she is.
But she and her family are now facing massive medical costs:
Emergency surgeries
ICU stays
Life-flight transport
This fundraiser is to help ease that overwhelming financial burden so Madi can focus on what truly matters: healing.
Anything you’re able to contribute, whether $5 or $50, makes a difference. And if you’re not in a place to give, please consider sharing this page with others. Madi’s fight isn’t over yet, but with your help, we can make sure she doesn’t face it alone.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts,
Elizabeth
