Less than a year ago, Madelyn, Joe, and their dog Tom moved to St. Louis Park, Minnesota, excited to start their new chapter together. Over the past several months, they transformed their apartment unit into so much more than a place to live. It became their home—a place filled with laughter, cherished memories, and love.

On July 17, everything changed.

While visiting family in Wisconsin, they received the devastating news that the Helix Apartment Complex they called home was up in flames. Ninety units were destroyed by the fire, and unfortunately, theirs was one of them that was directly impacted. At this time, the only belongings they have are what they packed for what was meant to be a short family visit. And yes, their dog Tom was with them here in Wisconsin and is safe and sound!

In an instant, they were faced with the unimaginable task of starting over. Beyond replacing clothing, furniture, and other everyday essentials, they are also grieving the loss of the irreplaceable things that made their apartment a home—photos, keepsakes, gifts, and memories collected over the years that can never truly be replaced. They now need to find temporary housing and begin rebuilding their lives from the ground up.
