Help Madeline with Lymphomatoid Granulomatosis
Donation protected
In December 2021, my amazing niece Madeline suffered a fall that resulted in a broken rib and a lower back injury. While this sounds somewhat cut and dry, she slowly became more and more ill without explanation. Fast forward to March 2022, and she was hospitalized for two weeks due to shortness of breath, edema, and a strange rash over most of her body and face. The temporary solution was aggressive steroid treatment. Steroids helped Madeline breathe more easily and the swelling started to recede. After more testing, it was discovered that Madeline had granulomas in her lungs, liver, and spleen; she also developed marble-like tumors (nodules) under her skin in several spots. After a lengthy testing period, including multiple biopsies and procedures, Madeline received a diagnosis of Lymphomatoid Granulomatosis in May from the Mayo Clinic.
Lymphomatoid Granulomatosis is an extremely rare form of B-cell lymphoma. This particular cancer typically affects males twice as frequently as females, and the median age for this disease is 46, making Madeline's case as a 30-year-old young woman even more rare. There is no confirmed treatment or cure. Since diagnosis Madeline has been undergoing aggressive chemotherapy; she has been through six rounds of chemo, including three different regimens.
The current treatment goal is to get the cancer into remission via chemotherapy for Madeline to receive a stem cell transplant. Her doctors believe Madeline's best chance of beating this will be a tandem stem cell transplant, where she undergoes two transplants. The first will require 50-60 days of recovery, and the second, higher-risk transplant will need another 60-80 days.
It's a surreal experience to watch Madeline handle this rare and life-altering cancer diagnosis with such grace and positivity. She is a joy to be around and lights up the room wherever she goes. A genuinely kind soul that loves animals, her friends, family, and life! We want to help Madeline during this difficult time to pay for her health insurance, copays, deductibles, transportation and living expenses since she is unable to work. Madeline and her entire family so greatly appreciate your time and generosity. If you cannot help monetarily at this time, please consider helping share Madeline's story to reach more people!
