Hello,
This gofundme page is for our daughter Maddie. Whilst pregnant with Maddie at 20 weeks some abnormalities were found on our scan, we were closely monitored from this point. At 32 weeks we were told that Maddie may have a learning disability after a series of scans including MRI's. Fast forward just over 3 years and Maddie has been diagnosed with Diplegic Cerebral Palsy, Microcephaly, a very rare genetic disorder, learning disabilities, a squint and is unable to see in 3D. She is not able to walk and is non-verbal. She commando crawls and uses her walking frame for brief periods in the day. She communicates using gestures, pointing, some sign language and her communication book with picture aids. Daily she needs to complete a range of physio exercises to help her. She wears splints on her legs and has various pieces of equipment, including a bench, roll and wheelchair. She has a team of specialists supporting her, including a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Specialist Health Visitor, Paediatric Physiotherapy Technical Instructor, Eye Consultant, Paediatric Community Consultant and visits five other departments at our local Hospital for checks.
Despite all the physiotherapy, physical aids she wears and high level of appointments, Maddie is the most gorgeous, happy, sociable and content little girl. She has a beautiful smile. She is no trouble at all. She takes everything in her stride and has a can do relaxed attitude to life which makes our journey that bit easier.
So, this is where I need your help please, whilst Maddie enjoys most regular things a 3-year-old does, building towers with mega blocks, drawing, a love for the outside, going down the slide, Mr Tumble, Peppa Pig and story books. We do not want Maddie to be sat in a wheelchair or buggy as her only means of getting around. However due to her nature of disability she is not able to ride and enjoy trikes or bikes as they do not cater for her needs. We would love to be able to buy her the Quest Children's Therapy Tricycle in the Unicorn design as pictured below.
We have had Maddie measured for the trike (pictures below), to gain a quotation, her trike would be made to measure and adapted for her and would include a chest pad, hip support, thoracic support, footplates & AFO (ankle-foot orthosis) footplates, support saddle, narrow twin grip handlebars. A rear carers control rode. The Trike can be split into three parts for storage and transportation. The price also includes delivery, warranty and check-up.
We would just like Maddie to enjoy life like others do at her age, enjoy life experiences and expose her to as much as what we can. The bespoke trike costs GBP 2114. If you're able to help our daughter purchase this trike it would mean a great deal to us as a family. Maddie has a little Sister who is not disabled and has already at 10 months old over taken Maddie in her motor skills. We would love to be able to take both our girls out on trikes.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and also if you choose to donate. With love from Maddie Xx.
