London's Calling!!
Growing up, I had a world map on my bedroom wall with a red pin in each city I wished to visit. The map was covered with red pins, but I had London circled in permanent marker. Regarded as the world’s most multi-cultural city, rich in history and education, I have always been drawn to London. The study abroad programs at UNC-Chapel Hill were one of my biggest draws to choosing this school. However feeling held back by financial and personal insecurities, I convinced myself that there wasn’t enough time. During a meeting with an academic advisor, I was told I was ahead of schedule for graduation, and my next step became obvious. I wanted to go to London. This program will allow me to step into and learn from various cultures and perspectives for personal and academic growth. I will learn more about my strengths and limitations and widen my global mindset. The chance to pursue an internship and courses in London, widely considered the media capital of Europe, would immensely advance my professional development. Most importantly, I will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend a semester abroad in London.
I am asking friends, family, colleagues, peers, and whoever else to help me get to London this upcoming January and donate however much they can to a broke college student. Along with a GoFundMe, I have created an all-female rideshare service on the UNC-CH campus to fundraise for my study abroad program called “She’s Not Here.” I will be doing as much as I can to raise money on my end, but I will be beyond appreciative of any penny that you have to spare.
