My granddaughter Macey is just 20 years old and has been fighting for her life since she was 8 years old. We have been dealing with all of this since she was 8 years old. She received a kidney transplant at 15, but sadly, it was rejected two years later. Now, she’s on dialysis and requires oxygen full time, facing the need for a heart, lung, and kidney transplant. We began this new journey in August, and every day has been a challenge as we work to get her the care she needs at Cleveland Clinic.
Traveling to Cleveland Clinic is a 2 1/2 hour drive each way, and I’ll need to stay in Cleveland for an extended period while Macey undergoes treatment and waits for her transplants. The number of doctor appointments has increased, and the costs for lodging, food, and gas are adding up quickly. We’ve managed on our own until now, but the travel expenses have become overwhelming, and we need help to keep supporting Macey through this process. As we get older, it’s become even harder to manage these trips and the stress that comes with them, especially compared to when Macey had her kidney transplant years ago. The stress of dealing with this has been ongoing for years, and it’s taken a toll on our family emotionally and physically.
Macey is determined to stay strong through all of this. Her hope is to receive her transplants and finally be able to live like any other young adult. Your support will help us cover the travel and living expenses so I can be by her side every step of the way. Thank you for helping us give Macey the opportunity for a brighter future.
