Hello everyone. My name is Dustin McCurdy and I am starting this GoFundMe for my husband, Mac McCurdy. Mac has been suffering from L4/L5 disc degenerative disease, including a worsening posterior annular fissure, and a worsening herniated disc. Despite conservative pain measures including physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractor visits, and nerve medications such as Gabapentin, Lyrica, and Cymbalta, nothing has helped ease his pain. He has been in constant, severe and agonizing pain for nearly 9 months now. His doctor and spine specialist at Kaiser have honestly been little to no help and constantly leave him waiting to see what the next step is to move forward. I did some research and found a spine stimulator called Nevro HFX, which is implanted and sends electrical pulses into the spine and has been proven to decrease pain in users by as much as 95%. Kaiser has informed us that the Nevro HFX and similar spine stimulators are only used on patients that absolutely need them, and would rather try to still shove pills down Mac's throat. In addition, on December 29, 2025, the last day that he was actually able to work, he got stuck in an elevator at work and it dropped several feet, causing his back injury to worsen, and that has turned into a workers comp claim that Kaiser has given us the runaround on. Counting the 3 months in late 2025 when he was off work due to the initial injury, he is now owed 6 months of backpay that we may never actually receive. Things have gotten challenging for us financially due to all of this, and more than anything I want Mac to be able to get some sort of pain relief so that he is able to get back to his physical therapy. We both really want him to be able to try the Nevro HFX, and the only way that is possible due to Kaiser's negligence is to pay out of pocket. Of course, like most medical things in America, it isn't cheap, and can cost upwards of $76,000 at the high end from the research I have done. I am reaching out to anyone that can possibly help Mac get some sort of pain relief and on the road to recovery. If you don't know him that well, I can tell you that he is one of the most kindest, funny, and selfless human beings you will ever meet. He puts family and friends first before himself, and has deep empathy for others. Thank you so much for reading and have a blessed day.
