Hi, my name is Lauren and I am looking for some help to raise funds to pay for the critical veterinary care of Mabel, our 11-week-old English bulldog puppy, who is being treated for aspiration pneumonia for the second time in two weeks. We want to give her every chance possible while she is making progress, showing a will to keep going, and remains comfortable.
We got her on the 29th of December from a wonderful breeder, and she was perfectly happy. My 3 boys absolutely adore her. She loves to play and be snuggled.
On New Year’s Eve, she started choking after picking up a piece of my other dog's kibble. She immediately collapsed and started gagging, then looked lethargic. I rushed her to the emergency vet where she was placed in an oxygen cage and treated for 2 days with IV antibiotics for aspiration pneumonia and pulmonary edema. We were told that her chances of survival were like flipping a coin and that she wasn’t expected to make it to the morning.
Mabel improved overnight and came home on January 2nd with continued antibiotics and orders to give soft food and restrict strenuous activity. Mabel was improving at home, eating, drinking, playing, and acting like a normal puppy.
This morning, Mabel collapsed again, and her gums and tongue looked a pale blue. She was once again rushed to the emergency vet and placed in the oxygen cage. We were told again that this is likely to keep happening and the vet strongly recommended euthanasia.
We want to give her a chance and plan to give her the night to see if she can improve. We have already spent $7,500 on her vet care. Pet insurance will not assist with any of this as they claim this to be a preexisting condition.
We are hopeful that she can improve overnight, and in that event, would like to continue supportive care to give her time to recover. We love her so much and want to give her any chance there is, but need some help to be able to continue to treat her.
