I adopted my beautiful kitten Mabel Mae from a friend who found her underneath a deck outside with many other little babies as well. Mabel is a sweet, fun, and playful girl who loves to eat (just like her momma) and is the sweetest kitten to everyone she’s ever met. She quickly became a cherished part of my life, bringing joy and laughter to everyone around her.

Recently, Mabel started having a tough time—she was vomiting and not eating, which was so unlike her. After a long day of worry, I brought her to the vet for an ultrasound and x-ray. That’s when I learned that Mabel has two hernias on her abdomen, and the one on her left side is especially dangerous. It’s suffocating her stomach and intestines, making it impossible for her to eat, use the bathroom, or even have a chance at a healthy life beyond her first three months. The vet said she needs immediate surgery to survive.

As a 20-year-old college student who pays rent and other bills, I don’t have pet insurance, and the cost of surgery and vet care is overwhelming. I feel vulnerable asking for help, but I know I can’t do this alone. Anything you can give—even just a prayer—means the world to me and to Mabel Mae.
