Salome Yaa Diame, affectionately known by everyone as Maa Salo is a mother has always been the kind of person who treats everyone she meets like family. She is warm, generous, and deeply loved by her children, relatives, friends, and even strangers whose lives she has touched over the years. To many people, she is not just a mother to her own children, but a mother to everyone she meets.
Right now, our family is facing the most difficult moment of our lives.
My mother has been diagnosed with Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP), a rare and life-threatening blood disorder. She is currently critically ill in the Intensive Care Unit at Greater Accra Regional Hospital, where she is on a ventilator and under the care of a specialist haematology team.
The only life-saving treatment for her condition is urgent daily Plasma Exchange Therapy, along with intensive monitoring, blood support, and specialized care.
Unfortunately, the cost of this treatment is extremely high. The estimated cost of the plasma exchange therapy and ICU care is GHS 200,000/ £14,000 and these services are not covered at all by Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). This has placed a tremendous financial burden on our family as we try to keep up with the urgent medical care she needs to survive.
Her doctor has made it clear that any delay or interruption in treatment puts her life at very high risk.
We are therefore humbly asking for your help.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will go directly toward paying for her plasma exchange treatments, ICU care, laboratory investigations, blood products, and other critical medical support.
