Help Ma to Win Her Battle Against Cancer and Heal

Donation protected

Hi Everyone,

My mother, Heena Raval, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to undergo emergency surgery on July 8th 2021, because she had an epilepsy stroke. They were able to successfully remove the tumor; however, post surgery she suffered a major heart attack. She was in ICU for 22 days and in hospital for another 10 days. She has been bedridden at home since then. The IHC and pathology reports show that she has a high-grade Lymphoma (cancer of large B-cell lymphocytes).

The doctors say this type of cancer is highly treatable in general. But in her case, the only option at the present is to curb cancer using steroids. She cannot start her radiation and/or chemotherapy towards killing cancer, as according to the doctors doing so will be lethal for her in her present condition. As of now, her heart is weak, her brain has to recover post surgery and she has to be frequently monitored for many critical health parameters (diabetes, heart EF, pulse rate, blood pressure, sodium level, epilepsy stroke). In addition, she has been having frequent bouts of delirium, hallucinations, and aggression - these are symptoms caused due to brain surgery. To start the radiation/chemo treatment, her brain needs to fully recover and she needs to overcome the bouts to be on her feet again. For that, she has been taking over 30 tablets (plus steroids) two times every day and doing daily physical therapy. She will have to start psychological counseling ASAP too. The brain recovery is very slow and she has a long way to go in rehabilitation.

At the present, she has more bad days than good days, with the bouts and other health complications troubling frequently. More so, according to the doctor, if her mental health doesn’t improve in the next two weeks, she may have to be hospitalized again for an indefinite period of time. She would need constant medical attention and that wouldn’t be possible at home. She's very positive when she is lucid, but it's very painful to see her when she isn't. It’s heart-wrenching to watch her and my father suffer.

My father, Ramesh Raval, is taking care of her at home at the present. My father, who has retired, is highly diabetic. He, too, was hospitalized before Ma’s surgery due to hypoglycemia. He has moderate hearing loss and because of Ma’s constantly delirious state, he’s having high blood pressure, emotional meltdowns, and anxiety attacks. Thus, it is not possible for him to take care of Ma all by himself. Therefore, we have caregivers/nursing staff coming in every day to help dad look after her and monitor her critical health parameters. He’s trying to do the best he can, every waking hour and we love him dearly for it all. We worry for his emotional, mental and physical well-being too.

The hospitalization bills and the current bills of ongoing medical treatments have completely exhausted her health insurance, as well as all our personal savings as of now. The medical expenses are increasing by the day, and with zero health insurance, it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage the expenses. The total anticipated expenses amount to $50,000+ including all the medications, counseling, nursing, PT, ambulance assistance for hospital visits, frequent brain and cancer scans, radiation + chemo, etc.

The road to recovery is very long, painful, and stressful but IT IS THERE, and the doctors say so too….we are holding on to that hope, that light at the end of the tunnel. She’s like a Phoenix and has dealt with everything that life has given her very strongly, very positively, and we hope, pray, and are confident that she will rise from this state too. She talks to us when she’s sane, remembers us all, her mind is very sharp, and says she wants to get better soon so she can play with my son (her grandson), Preesh. I’m very positive that they will make many many beautiful memories together, in the future, too. Preesh too prays and tells God every day, “to please make Nani/Motimummy better soon so she and Nana can be with us and play with me.”

Thank you so much for your generosity and care.

We are so grateful to each and every one of you.

Remember that a large sum of money upfront, seems highly daunting for us, but when people give even a small amount, it all adds up and really really helps.

Thank you SO much for your care and compassion.
