Lyvian Peralta is my 14 year old niece who was born premature in 2004.
Two years later she was diagnosed with a hearing condition call bilateral sensorineural hearing loss.
After a very expensive surgery, she receives a cochlear implantis, a surgically implanted neuroprosthetic device that provides a sense of sound to a person with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss.
She wears a sound processor (outside hearing device) that contains microphones, electronics that include DSP chips, battery, and a coil which transmits a signal to the implant across the skin giving her the ability to hear!
Lyvian spent the next 10 years going to speech therapy assisting her in learning how to speak.
Lyvian is a survivor, strong teenager who has had her fair share of obstacles since early on due to all the health complications from being a premature baby.
She is such a loving, smart outstanding girl who needs everyone’s help.
Unfortunately, Lyvian’s hearing device has gone missing and she’s in need of a replacement.
Big problem!! A replacement device cost $10,000! Yes, $10,000.
A device that gives her the ability to do the most basic thing that we’re all so lucky to have: hearing!
