Hi everyone,

My name is Lyric, and I’m the founder of The Movement Street Organization — a nonprofit dedicated to making volunteerism more accessible, creative, and impactful for young people across communities like Washington, D.C., Flint, and Detroit.

I’ve dedicated the last several years of my life to building something that brings people together through service, culture, and community. This work is not just what I do, it’s who I am.

In 2023, I graduated with Honors from Howard University on a full-ride scholarship. That opportunity changed my life. It allowed me to graduate debt-free and fully commit myself to growing my nonprofit and serving others.

After graduating, I made the decision to continue my education and pursue my MBA at the University of Maryland, graduating in May 2025. I wanted to build the skills necessary to scale The Movement Street and create long-term, sustainable impact.

However, during my graduate program, there were unexpected changes to my financial aid after my first year due to administrative shifts. At the time, I was under the impression that everything had been resolved.

Recently — over a year after graduating — I was notified that I now have an outstanding balance of $18,000 that must be paid.

This came as a complete shock.

As a nonprofit founder, I’ve chosen to prioritize community impact over personal income. I’ve poured my time, energy, and resources into creating opportunities for others — from service events to creative programming that brings people together and gives back.

Now, I’m in a position where I need support.

I have until April 20th to resolve this balance, and I’m asking for help from my community, supporters, and anyone who believes in investing in people who are committed to making a difference.

Every contribution — no matter the amount — helps lift this unexpected burden and allows me to continue leading and growing The Movement Street without interruption.
