My name is Jason Sharp and this handsome fellow is Cory Crookedneck. I started working with him at the Coop refinery in Regina in 2013. He was painfully quiet, but when you got him talking you'd find he had a great sense of humour. He was a solid worker that you could rely on. No matter what time of day or night, if you needed a hand, he was there. His absolute best quality, though, was the respect that he gave to everyone. He was polite and kind, even to a newbie like myself. In short, he is a true gentleman. And, like many of us, he is a family man who loves his wife and kids more than anything.
Late last year, Cory left the refinery to move back home, north of Meadow Lake, to be with his wife and kids. Unfortunately, his 16 year old daughter Lyric became sick. She has stage 5 kidney disease, which is about as serious as you can get. The job he moved back for fell through and his daughter must undergo dialysis every night in their home. Their savings are dry, the bills have begun to pile up and the stress levels must be through the roof. I'm hoping to help him raise some money to relieve some of that stress. A generator to help with an unreliable power supply, travel costs to reach hospitals in the city, medical supplies and day to day expenses; with a sick daughter the last thing they need to be worried about is finances.
I know money might be tight with many of you. It's been a garbage year all around. I think that a year like this, though, is a test of our characters. A brutal year doesn't need to turn us into hard people. What will get us through these tough times, I believe, is empathy and compassion. If you can donate, please do. If you can share this with other people who may help, I would be grateful. Don't forgot those who might not be on social media. Please get the word out.
