Help Lyra's Family Pay Hit & Run – ICU & Surgery Bills
Doação protegida
Lyra was recently struck by a car and needs immediate surgery to address her injuries and ensure she can survive and return to her goofy, loving, floppy-eared hound self.
Janeen rescued Lyra as a puppy six years ago while Lyra was in the midst of a life-threatening battle with Parvovirus. She nursed Lyra through the deadly virus and Lyra has been the center of her life ever since. She loves to curl up in the curve of Janeen’s legs, or stand on her hind legs to be included in group hugs. She is Janeen’s rock when she is hurting and needs support, offering comforting nuzzles and licking away the tears before they can even finish falling. Her favorite treat is fresh crunchy celery, and she waits patiently at the fridge for it after every walk.
Lyra is an active dog with a lot of energy. She expertly sniffs out her meals around the house which is given as a scavenger hunt, loves running in the yard and goes on hikes, bikes, and walks constantly with Janeen. Her favorite place to be is anywhere outside with Janeen. Unfortunately, on a recent hike she ran off after a deer, through a broken fence, which led her out of the park and into the road where she was struck by a driver who did not stop. Thankfully some Good Samaritans, including Stephen (thank you!), did stop and helped move her to safety and comfort Janeen.
The impact left her with internal bleeding, a shattered rear left shin (tibia & fibula), and fractured pelvis. Her injuries have needed ongoing imaging, a blood transfusion, IV fluids, pain management, and will require two surgeries as well as intensive care and rehabilitation. In the past two days, Lyra has been bouncing back and forth between improving and deteriorating, which has set back timing for surgery. Janeen will be doing whatever is needed to ensure she gets the care she needs, however the costs are expected to be quite high.
A temporary Care Credit was granted to ensure she receives the immediate care she needs. The vet has estimated that costs will exceed $10,000 before completion of her medical care. Unexpected expenses of this magnitude will be a significant burden, and as friends and family who love both Janeen and Lyra very much, we are asking for your help.
If you can afford to give a donation to help with Lyra’s care to help her get through the immediate dangers, surgeries, and the long rehabilitation ahead of her, we would be immensely appreciative. We know that times are tough right now, and if you’d like to help with Lyra but are not in a position to do so financially, you can still contribute by sharing this fundraiser.
Thank you for your help,
The friends and family of Janeen and Lyra
