Saturday night, my wife and I visited a restaurant in Bedford, PA, and met a remarkable woman named Lynne Scritchfield. Lynne has been a waitress at Jean Bonnet Tavern for 20 years, serving customers with a warm smile and a kind heart. Before that, she worked in a factory for 37 years and retired at 62, but retirement didn’t last long. Despite her age and the pain she feels in her legs, Lynne continues to work weekends, taking ibuprofen before every shift just to make it through the night. She does all of this simply to afford her mortgage and pay her bills.
Talking to the staff, I learned that Lynne’s dedication is well known, but so is her struggle. Her coworkers worry she may never be able to retire, and it’s heartbreaking to think that after a lifetime of hard work, she still can’t rest. As a business owner myself, I know how hard it is to find people willing to work weekends, and Lynne’s commitment is truly inspiring. But she shouldn’t have to keep working just to keep a roof over her head.
I’m creating this GoFundMe to help Lynne finally enjoy the retirement she deserves. The funds raised will go directly toward her mortgage and bills, so she can stop working on her feet and start enjoying life. Our community came together to help Butch from Walmart retire, and I believe we can show Lynne the same kindness and support. Every donation, big or small, brings her closer to a well-earned rest. Thank you so much for your generosity and for helping make a difference in Lynne’s life.
