Over two months ago, our family’s world was turned upside down. My niece, Lynn West, a 47-year-old elementary school guidance counselor in Winneconne, WI, suffered a sudden cardiac event caused by a 99% blockage in her LAD artery due to cardiomyopathy (thickened heart muscle). The condition was worsened by scar tissue from chemotherapy and radiation she received when she was younger. Lynn went into full cardiac arrest (Code Blue), required CPR and four shocks to restart her heart, and was then airlifted to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee—a flight none of us will ever forget.
Through sheer strength, unwavering faith, and the heroic efforts of her medical team, Lynn fought through months of uncertainty. Just two weeks ago, on November 14th, she received the incredible gift of a new heart. We are overjoyed to share that her transplant surgery was successful, and she is now in the early stages of recovery.
Although the 12-hour surgery went beautifully, Lynn still has a long, challenging road of healing and rehabilitation ahead of her.
Lynn has spent her entire career pouring love and care into the children she serves as a beloved guidance counselor. Now, it’s our turn to surround her with the same kindness and support she has always given others.
We’ve set up this fundraiser to help ease the financial burden of massive medical bills, ongoing rehabilitation, frequent travel to Milwaukee, costly anti-rejection medications she will need for the rest of her life, and many other recovery-related expenses.
Our family is overwhelmed with gratitude for the prayers, messages, and love we’ve already received. If you’re able, please consider donating or sharing Lynn’s story so we can reach as many caring hearts as possible.
Thank you for keeping Lynn in your thoughts and for standing with us during this time of hope, healing, and gratitude. ❤️
