Lynn Mackel and Steve Tornetta are the first 2 people to be there for others, and now they need us more than ever before.
August 2020, Tropical Storm Isaias hit the Perkiomen Creek in Perkiomen Township reaching 18.45 ft (breaking a record set in 1935). They lost their heater/boiler, carpeting, insulation, everything in their garage and shed; but together with the support of their family they found the way to clean up and rebuild. Life moved on.
The 85-year history making flood was finally in the rear view mirror when Hurricane Ida made its way on September 1st. The Perkiomen Creek crested this time at 20 feet. Lynn and Steve’s house was completely flooded by Hurricane Ida. Imagine having 6 feet of water in the first floor of your home. That is what they had; the 1st floor includes their bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room. Lynn describes wading through water up to her neck trying to retrieve her prized possessions, things that can never be replaced. Their newly repaired basement and garage were also destroyed. Thankfully all of the Kitties are safe!
Lynn & Steve are 2 of the hardest workers. Lynn is one of your favorite bartenders at Chap’s Taproom and Restaurant at Westover and Steve has worked in the postal distribution for many years. They are devastated and overwhelmed. Whether they choose to stay or find a new place to call home their entire first floor needs to be gutted, all of the furniture, appliances and personal belongings need to be replaced.
Everywhere they turn people ask what can we do and they are being offered support from their friends, coworkers, and family. While they are so thankful for all the help they’ve received thus far, there is still a long road until Ida is also in their rear-view mirror. If you’re able to help financially, we would really appreciate it as you know that neither Lynn or Steve would ever ask for your donations. Thank you in advance for all that you are able to do.
Lynn and I have work together at Chaps, her sister Diane & I have been working on this together. The money raised will be used to clean up, rebuild the first floor of the home and purchase their basic needs.
