My sweet sister-in-law, Lynn, has always been a source of warmth and kindness in our family. Yesterday, her life changed in an instant when a fire broke out in her apartment in Brazil, where her daughter Angie lovingly cares for her. Lynn, a longtime resident of Salisbury, NC, is elderly and bravely living with Parkinson’s disease.

The fire started from a lamp in her bedroom, but fortunately she was sleeping in the living room that night. At 4 am, her grandson Daniel noticed the flames. Lynn had already begun crawling to safety when her son-in-law, Samuel, rushed in and managed to pull her out just in time. Lynn suffered painful second-degree burns on her arms and legs, and her recovery is complicated by her other health challenges.

The fire and smoke destroyed most of Lynn’s cherished personal items, furniture, and appliances. The family is heartbroken, and they simply do not have the means to replace everything that was lost. They are doing their best to care for Lynn and help her heal, but the road ahead is overwhelming. We are reaching out to our community for help.
