My landlord had to turn down rental assistance through my insurance company because she would need to fill out a W-9 to accept the money, and she's afraid it will affect her social security and Medicare for her and her husband, who has been in and out of the hospital. I understand her situation, but now I have just 5 days to come up with enough for rent or I have to leave.

I've lived here for almost 3 years, and my landlord has been very gracious in letting me stay as long as possible. I just rent a room, but everything is included and I'm safe and warm here. One of the most important parts of my home is Riley, the Great Dane who lives here. She has truly become family—this is her house, and she has chosen me to be one of her people. Riley is getting old for her breed, and I don't want to leave her before her time. She trusts me completely, and I take care of her when my landlords are away, which is often. Keeping my housing will make it much easier to keep my job, look for better opportunities, and continue caring for Riley, my sidekick and companion.
