UPDATE: we are working with a nonprofit that is going to cover a good amount of her surgery! However, we still will come up just a little short. On the night of June 22nd, we noticed that our sweet girl, Lylah Jo, was suddenly walking strangely—she wasn't using one of her back legs at all. We rushed her to the emergency vet, where they told us she was beginning to lose movement in both of her back legs. They sent us home with medication, hoping it was just inflammation, and instructed us to let her rest.

But this morning, June 23rd, we woke up to something heartbreaking: Lylah Jo had completely lost the use of her back legs. We immediately got her into another vet, where X-rays revealed a slipped disc severely affecting her mobility. The vet suspects she has IVDD (intervertebral disc disease), but a proper diagnosis requires more advanced imaging.

The good news is that surgery could give her a real chance at regaining her mobility and quality of life. The hard part is the cost: we were quoted roughly $9,000 for the scans, surgery, and medications. After paying for the emergency and vet visits, we’re in a financial pinch—otherwise, we wouldn't be asking for help.

She’s gotten us through some of the toughest moments in our lives, and now it’s our turn to be there for her. She just turned 7 in April, loves her walks, swims at the beach, and being her playful, energetic self. Seeing her like this—confused and frustrated because her body isn’t keeping up with her spirit—is heartbreaking.

Right now, Lylah Jo is 100% non-ambulatory. Time is critical—the sooner she gets this surgery, the better her chances of walking again.
