I first got Lyla when I moved into my first apartment on my own at 20. I needed a companion, and she quickly became my saving grace (corny but true). She’s the sweetest, most loving cat who just wants love. She is always curling up on me and showering me licks until I have to reposition her to another area. Having her by my side has made every day brighter, and I can’t imagine my life without her. She really is a piece of me. Recently, Lyla has become pretty ill. She’s gotten very skinny and weak, and after taking her to four different vets and doing everything I can, I learned that her stomach, bowels, and liver are inflamed, and she’s symptomatically anemic. There are also concerns about her kidneys and liver that I’m still trying to fully understand. The next step is to get biopsies of her liver and kidneys, but the cost is more than I can manage right now. I’ve started her on antibiotics, steroids, an appetite stimulant, and a B-12 shot, hoping it will keep her comfortable while I figure out the next steps. This is my first time ever having my own pet and having to make these difficult decisions. It breaks my heart to see Lyla suffer, and I feel helpless knowing I’ve done all I can but can’t afford the care she needs. I’m going to pick up extra shifts, but I won’t see that money for a couple of weeks and still have bills to pay. Any support for Lyla’s care would mean the world to us. Thank you for helping me give her a fighting chance.
