My name is Lydia, and I am the proud mother of twin boys who both have significant disabilities. My sons are nonverbal; one has type 1 diabetes, while the other one is also at high risk of developing it. They also have intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and Autism. As their full-time caregiver and advocate, I do everything I can to make sure they have the best possible life.

Recently, I was able to secure legal aid for guardianship for one of my sons, but I have not been able to get the same support for his twin brother. The legal fees for guardianship are more than I can afford on my own. As a solo parent, I juggle part-time college and a job to make ends meet, but it's a constant struggle. We are also survivors of domestic violence, and for nearly 12 years, I have worked hard to rebuild our lives and provide a safe, loving home for my boys.

Securing guardianship is critical for my son's future. It will allow me to make important medical and life decisions for them, access the services they need, and ensure their well-being as they grow.
