Hi, my name is Maddie and I am Lydia’s daughter. My mom went into the hospital on December 28th to detox. She has struggled with alcoholism my entire life, but I’ve never seen it as bad as it was. Her dog passed away in November, and shortly after that, her drinking took a turn for the worse. She had three bad falls within a two-month span, and on Christmas Eve, we had to take her to the ER. Then, three days later, she got admitted for detox. During detox, she developed delirium tremens, which is the most severe form of alcohol withdrawal. It was really scary to see because she was hallucinating and didn’t know who I was. Normally, delirium tremens aren’t permanent, but my mom's never fully went away. Even once she was discharged, she was still having delirium and hallucinations. On the 13th of January, she went back to the hospital after being discharged for five days and got admitted to the behavioral health floor. She got admitted with Wernicke encephalopathy, which is alcohol-induced dementia. She has since been placed into memory care, and this whole situation has been so, so hard for us.
We are struggling financially because I have a chronic illness and can’t drive, so my husband had to miss work for the court dates needed to get guardianship and also to help with everything. Any amount is greatly appreciated; we just really need help. My mom's care is extremely expensive as well. Please just keep my mom in your thoughts and prayers.
