The holidays are usually a time to gather with the people we love in warmth and comfort. Sadly, this season has brought unimaginable heartbreak for someone very dear to my family.

Last month, my childhood friend Xavier Medina, with whom I went to St. Catherine of Siena School, fell into a coma. Despite every hope and prayer, he passed away just a few days ago. During his hospital stay, he was lovingly cared for by his mother, Lupita Medina, who has also been a close family friend for many years.

Lupita has faced tremendous hardship for over 15 years. Due to a serious hearing disability, she has struggled to maintain employment, which has led to homelessness. She has spent years going from place to place and, at times, even lived in her car. When her car finally broke down, she was left walking and relying on public transportation for everything.

Last spring, as I was driving to work in the pouring rain, I saw Lupita walking long distances to get groceries for her son. It broke my heart then, and it breaks my heart even more now, knowing she must face this loss without stability, family support, or a safe place to call home.

Today, Lupita is grieving the loss of her son while staying in a shelter. She has no other family to help her. I am asking for your kindness and generosity to support her during this devastating time. The funds raised will help:
