Saturday, May 9th, prom night for Michigan City High School students, shots were fired into an after-prom house party celebration. A night that should be remembered for having fun and celebrating with your closest friends and classmates resulted in a horrific night that these kids will unfortunately never be able to forget. Several kids were injured with gunshot wounds, taken to the hospital, and even into emergency surgery. One of those kids being my 17-year-old cousin, Jeremiah. He was hit in the chest with a bullet, had surgery this morning, and has another one being scheduled. He is currently sedated for the time being and will have a very long road to recovery. His mom, my aunt Lupita/Lucy, is an undoubtedly hard-working nurse and single mom of her 2 boys. We have no idea what’s in store, and she is expecting to do a lot of travel back and forth as well as taking time off work to be there for her baby. Anything to help cover expenses for travel, lodging, any unpaid time off, and Jerry’s medical expenses throughout his recovery. Thank you to anyone who has the means to help.
