This is not an easy update to share…sadly, yesterday morning, my parents, Lupe and Dolores, suffered a significant loss when their home was damaged by a fire.
Many of you know this is a home that has been opened to so many family members as well as countless friends growing up. If you know my parents, they have always been the most loving, welcoming, and generous people you could ever meet. Asking for help does not come easily to them, making this moment particularly difficult. Starting over at nearly 74 years old is an overwhelming reality.
There is significant structural, water, and roof damage, and the house may be a total loss. Not to mention, the loss of their personal belongings. We were able to secure some key items once the fire was out but much was lost. They have lived in this home for over 48 years. Oak Cliff is truly home. Those walls are home and this is all very surreal. Walking through their home with more than six inches of water and widespread damage was heartbreaking for all of us.
The greatest blessing is that everyone is safe. My dad did cut his foot in the rush to get him in his wheelchair and get out of the house. He required an ambulance ride and 10 stitches but was thankfully released a few hours later. We’re confident God was working through the neighbor who was banging on their front door to help get them out safely.
Donations will help alleviate financial burdens as they recover, including temporary housing, replacing essentials, and addressing medical needs. Any donation, no matter the amount, is sincerely appreciated.
If you can’t donate, prayers and sharing this fundraiser are extremely welcome. We’re all working today and in the coming weeks to figure this all out as a family. Thank you in advance for everything!
