This is Luna. Luna will be 4 years old in December. She is always full of energy and follows me all around the house. She loves to cuddle and give kisses as well as play with her siblings.
Luna started presenting with some signs of weakening in the back and front legs on Friday, August 15, 2025. By the next day, Saturday afternoon, she was completely unable to walk and collapsing at every other step. We took her to emergency vet services, and they were able to do imaging and blood work. The blood work, thankfully, came back fine, but the x-ray showed evidence of disc space narrowing associated with vertebral anomalies, spondylosis, and mineralized disc, which heavily indicated IVDD. There is intervertebral disc space narrowing at T10-T11, T11-T12. There is evidence of mineralized disc material noted at C2-C3, T12-13, L1-L2, L2-L3, and L3-L4.
She is currently on anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxers, famotidine, pain management, and is fully on bed rest. We collected all that information yesterday, Saturday, August 16th. Today she will be seen by a neurologist where she will need an MRI to fully confirm her diagnosis and get started on a correct treatment plan. It’s highly possible that the surgery will cost, with treatment and Rehab all, upwards to $13,000. We love our girl Lunabella; she really is the sweetest dog in the world, and putting her down is not an option without a fight. She deserves the world and to be able to run again.
The surgery alone would be around $13,000. My boyfriend and I have been able to pay the ER visit, but we could really use the extra help as the neurologist could turn out extremely costly.
Her name is Luna, but we call her Luna Bella, Lunaplotoona, Mrs. Pontoon Boat, Baby Potato, Baked Potato. Please help us in any way you can to give her a chance to walk and enjoy life again. Thank you.
