This morning, our 11 month old Anatolian Shepherd / Great Pyrenees mix, Luna, was struck by a slow moving vehicle near our farm gate.

She’s our young guardian, gentle, goofy, loyal, and an important part of life on our homestead.

The impact broke her pelvis. We rushed her to the vet within 45 minutes, and after X-rays and stabilization, they confirmed the fracture. Luna is currently hospitalized, sedated, and being kept comfortable while the swelling goes down so they can determine the full extent of the injury and whether surgery will be required.

The good news: she’s alert, responsive, and in stable condition.

The hard news: her recovery is going to take time, and the veterinary bills are significant, estimated between $2,000 and $6,000, depending on whether surgical repair becomes necessary.

We’re doing everything we can to cover her care, but the upfront costs for hospitalization, imaging, and potential surgery are more than we can handle all at once. We can manage repayments over time, but we need help with the immediate medical expenses that will allow her to continue treatment.

Luna isn’t just our pet, she’s part of the rhythm of the homestead, the one who follows us on chores, naps under my desk while I work, and greets everyone who drives up the long gravel road.
