Help Luna Recover from a Vicious Dog Attack

Donation protected
On 10/19/2025 at about 4 pm, my father was walking my healthy 4-year-old dog, Luna, with our other two dogs. Supposedly, a neighbor's mother-in-law left the house door open, just two doors down from our house. As Luna and the crew were on the walk back home, two dogs ran towards my dogs with no owner in sight, at large.

One of the dogs viciously attacked my dog Luna, leaving gaping wounds. The police were involved, but the owners of the dogs who escaped and attacked Luna agreed to pay all vet bills related to the attack.

On 10/20/2025, Luna was out of surgery from MedVet with stitches in her neck.

On 10/22/2025, Luna's stitches appeared to have separated, and a lump was found under her shoulder. My parents rushed her back to the original vet, where they said they would have to redo the procedure. I requested my parents leave, and we get a second opinion.

On 10/23/2025, the primary vet recommended urgent care. At the urgent care, the vet did a thorough head-to-toe examination, which apparently was missed, and found necrotic tissue from puncture wounds of the attack. The vet sedated and cleaned the wounds and suggested allowing natural healing and allowing the necrotic tissue to fall off.

Luna had been on a slew of medications, not herself, and not eating. She is deteriorating and no longer her normal self.

On 10/30, Luna had a follow-up. The vet saw some signs of healing but also signs of infection. She informed us we might be looking at reconstruction surgery or amputation due to the bites. She wanted to try twice-a-day dressing changes and directed us to another vet clinic that’s available at times hers wasn’t.

On 10/31, Luna is getting worse. The vet is suggesting surgery. The owner of the dog who attacked ours had been cooperative up to this point. At this point, the owner is no longer paying the bills for the attack, which is leaving my family to pay the bills and possibly consider euthanasia.

We are looking at a long recovery if she makes it. My parents and I have missed many days of work to facilitate and transport her to and from vet visits and provide round-the-clock care.

Please consider donating or sharing this story to help me and my family. Any amount to help us as we try to navigate this scary situation to try to save a healthy dog that was a victim of this attack. The funds would cover some of the bills we have been left with since the owners of the dog who attacked mine abandoned the responsibility.

We are asking for help with the bills for the next few days, possibly help with euthanasia if she doesn’t do well by Sunday, and help with legal counsel as we have this situation investigated and the proper parties held accountable. Please consider helping us at this great time of need.

Any leftover funds will be donated to an Australian Shepherd charity on Luna's behalf.

update 11/04 Lunas blood cultures came back positive for klebsiella. Her mediation have been resistant to this infection. We are trying a new antibiotic. Her wound seems to be healing better then the past weekend and she’s regaining her spark, eating and drinking some. Doctor is optimistic of her recovery.
