On September 11th, 2025, our family experienced a traumatic event that has left us struggling to help our beloved miniature schnauzer, Luna, recover. Luna has been a cherished part of our family for eight years, joining us shortly after my husband and I were married. She was a shy, nine-month-old rescue who quickly warmed up to us and has since been a constant companion through every major life event, including the birth of our two children. Luna is fiercely protective, loving, and has always been the heart of our adventures—camping, hiking, and road trips. She’s also adored by the other schnauzers in our extended family.
While returning home from a walk, Luna and my husband were attacked by a neighbor’s unleashed pit bull and two other dogs. The attack was sudden and violent, leaving Luna with extensive injuries: a large portion of her thigh was lost, her ear was separated from her scalp, her scruff was degloved, and her left arm suffered multiple wounds. My husband, in his effort to save Luna, was bitten several times and has been deeply affected by the ordeal. Luna required emergency surgery and spent five days in the hospital. Since coming home, she’s faced complications, including infections and split stitches, resulting in repeated surgeries and daily vet visits. Her recovery is possible, but it will take time, care, and significant financial resources.
Unfortunately, the owners of the dogs responsible for the attack do not have renters insurance and are unable to cover the costs at this time. We are raising funds to cover Luna’s ongoing medical expenses, including surgeries, medications, and follow-up care. The costs have already reached thousands of dollars, and we are struggling to keep up with the mounting bills. Our children are still processing what happened and are hesitant to interact with Luna, worried about hurting her further. Luna means the world to us, and seeing her in pain has been heartbreaking for our entire family. Any support will go directly toward giving Luna the chance to heal and return to the loving, adventurous life she shares with us.
