Help Luna Beat Her Parathyroid Tumor & High Calcium

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Nicolas, and I’m fundraising for my 10-year-old Miniature Schnauzer, Luna.

Luna has been my constant companion for a decade. If you know her, you know she is the heart of our home. Even now, at 10 years old, she is still full of life—we were just running around and playing yesterday. She still has so much "puppy" left in her, which is why this recent diagnosis has been so heartbreaking.

The Diagnosis:
Luna has been diagnosed with Primary Hyperparathyroidism. This is caused by a small tumor on her parathyroid gland that acts like a "broken thermostat." It has been pumping out hormones that keep her blood calcium levels dangerously high.

Looking back, we now realize Luna has been battling this for a long time. She has struggled with worsening incontinence for the past year, a common side effect of the way high calcium affects the kidneys and bladder. More recently, the condition has taken a sharp turn: Luna’s weight has plummeted from 14.8 lbs to 12.6 lbs in just three weeks. She is also struggling with restlessness and nausea as her body works overtime to process the excess calcium.

The Goal:
The good news is that this is curable. A specialized surgery to remove the overactive gland can return her calcium to normal levels and give her several more healthy, happy years.

However, the path to surgery in Ontario is expensive. Between the advanced specialist imaging (ultrasound/CT), the surgical procedure itself, and the critical 24/7 post-operative monitoring required to keep her safe, the costs are estimated in the thousands.

How you can help:
I am doing everything I can to advocate for her, but the financial burden of specialist veterinary care here is immense. Every dollar raised will go directly toward:

Specialist Consultation & Advanced Imaging: To map the tumor and plan the surgery.

The Parathyroidectomy: The delicate surgery to remove the rogue gland.

Post-Op Hospitalization: Critical monitoring to ensure her calcium levels stabilize safely after the procedure.

Luna has been there for me through every high and low of the last ten years. She isn't ready to give up, and I’m not ready to lose her to something that is completely treatable.

Whether you can donate $5 or simply share this link with other dog lovers, you are helping me give my best friend a second chance at life.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
