Help Lumien Apartments Residents Recover from Vandalism
Donation protected
Early in the morning of April 3, the vehicles of 20 residents at Lumien Apartments in Durango were vandalized. Seven windshields were smashed or broken, and thirteen back right tires were slashed. The culprit has been arrested, but the residents need support to get through the next few weeks of their lives.
Lumien Apartments is a low-income housing property in North Durango, home to hard-working and community-oriented residents. Many are single parents, disabled individuals, or elderly, making it difficult for them to recover from unexpected emergencies like this one.
Here are some of the unexpected costs the residents will face:
- Hiring cabs for school and work transportation
- Replacing and repairing tires immediately
- Paying for windshield replacement
- Covering insurance deductibles and potential rate increases
While there is hope for compensation through insurance or restitution benefits, these processes can be limited, delayed, or insufficient.
We are asking for immediate support for these 20 resident families to help them navigate the short- and long-term effects of this crime. All funds will be distributed based on actual costs incurred, with any surplus going towards offsetting long-term impacts.
Your contribution will make a significant difference in these families' lives as they work to recover from this unfortunate incident.
