Lulu is a completely blind, diabetic with no income who needs help covering rent, basic meals, transportation to dialysis, and essential supplies.

I’m raising funds for Lulu, a quiet, devout woman who came from Guadalajara to San Diego in 1999 and whom I met through my work with a grassroots community group helping our most vulnerable neighbors. She was referred to us by a member of her church group.

Lulu is completely blind from diabetes, has limited mobility, no income, and no family.

She currently pays just $200/month to rent a tiny room in a manufactured home, but she still needs help covering rent, prepared meals she can store and heat in a microwave, and a few basic costs related to dialysis and basic care.

Current situation

* Lulu has no income other than occasional small gifts from church friends. The church can no longer provide funds for her rent.

* Lulu lives mostly confined to a small dark room with very limited refrigeration and storage space and cannot cook — she can only heat prepared meals.

* She is isolated, depressed, and vulnerable. Lulu avoids being a burden and receives little to no support from her landlady.

* She receives dialysis Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and is physically exhausted by treatment most of the remaining time. She does have transportation to and from dialysis.

How donations will be used

* Rent assistance: primary need — about $300/month to secure her current housing situation.

* Prepared shelf-stable or microwaveable meals and small grocery deliveries that fit her storage limitations.

* Any remaining funds will be used for emergency medical needs and basic hygiene/household supplies.

Why this matters

Lulu has been let down by systems that require documentation and/or complicated intake processes. She is blind, medically fragile, and severely isolated — yet grateful for small acts of kindness. Your gift will directly reduce her risk of homelessness, ensure she has food she can manage, and help her keep from developing further medical issues.

Funding plan & accountability

As Lulu does not have the means to receive disbursements of funds, all funds will be transferred to me, for which I have received Lulu’s express permission. I will distribute all funds to Lulu immediately upon receipt.
