Lula is a 6 year old American Bully who has had it ruff from the beginning. When I adopted her at 2 years old, she was immediately diagnosed with heart worms. The treatment was heart breaking and required her to live in a cage for 6 months. She fought and won, still remaining heart worm free! However, since then, she has continued to have medical problems that we’ve addressed along the way. One problem, we have tried medical management for years. Unfortunately it’s now failing and they’ve categorized her as end stage, meaning surgery is our only option. We met with a specialist at Purdue and they are planning to do a bilateral total ear canal ablation and bulla osteotomy, which we are scheduled to start in July. Lula is in pain every day, yet she still finds it in her to make everyone smile, show love, and be the best girl.

Unfortunately, vet medicine is nothing like human medicine. They will only operate if a family can fund it in advance. Given that I adopted her at 2 years old, they consider this a pre-existing condition. This means insurance will not cover a dime. The procedures were estimated to cost upwards $10,000, not including travel, hotels, follow up, etc.

So many of our friends and family love her and have asked me about supporting her through this process, which I appreciate more than you know.

I couldn’t imagine life without my sweet baby girl and I hope I don’t have to for a long long time.
