Luke, my service dog, has been by my side through so much. He’s not just a companion—he’s my hearing dog, trained specifically to help me navigate the world safely since I am deaf in my left ear, hard of hearing in my right ear, and blind in my right eye. Recently, while riding my e-bike with Luke in his service dog trailer, the zipper unexpectedly came apart. Luke’s back legs fell out, scraping both of his paws, and one was injured down to the bone. It was a terrifying moment, and I rushed him to the emergency vet to try to save his paw from infection and prevent him from losing it.
The vet bills have quickly added up, and Luke still needs follow-up visits and frequent bandage changes, as required by the ER vet and animal enforcement. Living on disability, it’s incredibly hard to cover these costs, but I want to do everything I can to give Luke the best care possible. He means the world to me, and I can’t imagine life without him by my side. Any support you can give—no matter how small—will help us get through this difficult time and give Luke the chance to heal and continue his important work as my service dog. Thank you for caring about Luke and for being part of our journey.
