Help Luke and Chase Escape Anti-Trans Laws

Luke and I (Chase) are planning on moving to Uruguay in response to the governments unprecedented attacks on trans people in the United States and the generally hostile environment which is quickly taking over the country. This is no place to raise children.

There are already state governments which are introducing legislation which makes existing as a trans person a felony offense punishable by jail time. Other states have removed state discrimination protections for gender identity. Florida has already had a history of anti-trans restrictions, with DeSantis pushing through laws which make it so difficult to receive HRT that Luke had to travel to Georgia to get his prescription resumed. All of these state laws are on top of the many new federal restrictions and executive orders which have been put in place to restrict or otherwise repress trans people in public life.

Trump has long since announced that he plans to deport 15-20 million people while the most recent statistics available say there are only around 10 million undocumented immigrants. A man with a legal green card and a family , including a pregnant wife, has been deported because he protested against US's foreign policy. The Trump administration has said they are planning on deporting naturalized US citizens who participate in "fraud," while they've just recently recently lied dozens of times about fraud in government. The ICE raids have been so extreme that they've already been rounding up natural-born US citizens by "accident."

The economy of the US is on a sharp decline. Real wages have barely increased since 1979 while inflation has increased 22 percent in just the last 5 years, the cost of a home has increased 25 percent in the same time, and the cost of rent has increased even higher than that. The tariff and trade wars which Trump is starting with US allies will make all of this even worse, especially in the short term. Again, this is not a place where we will be able to raise children.

All of these issues are developing and getting worse. As a student of history I can see which way this is going and we don't plan on staying here to see it play out.

We are asking for help to raise money for our move to Uruguay.

Uruguay is a stable and growing country with high quality healthcare, housing, and amenities. If we're able to get jobs which provide even 2/3 of the amount of money we're making currently then our quality of life will drastically improve. Crime is lower where we will be going than it is in the US generally and Orlando in particular; the country is more accepting of LGBT people and has stronger protections; there are better labor laws and regulations for people like us; and their economy is growing and has strong prospects for the future regardless of what happens in the USA. Healthcare is high quality and free for all residents and education is provided for by the state so I will be able to continue my education regardless of our financial situation. There is a growing educational sector which Luke has great chances of getting a job in but the move itself will be very expensive.

We are postponing our wedding indefinitely to save money for this move. We have spoken to multiple immigration lawyers in the country and one of the quotes provided to us was for just Luke and I to move there we'd be spending over $5,000 to have the documentation and residency process completed for us. We will be moving regardless of if we have the money to pay for immigration services but it would be an incredible relief to not have to handle the Uruguayan bureaucracy so we can focus on finding housing, work, and getting our new lives started. If we can't make enough money for the lawyers, any help would still make our transition much easier. We just want to live simple and quiet lives without having to worry about being targeted for who we are.
