Help Luka Get the Care He Deserves

Hello, my name is Leo, and I’m reaching out to ask for your help on behalf of my nephew—Luka Gabriel Lainez Gómez, a bright, loving 10-year-old with a heart full of courage and a long medical journey ahead of him.

Luka underwent comprehensive genetic testing in hopes of finding answers to a series of challenging health issues he’s been facing since birth. These include developmental delays, seizures, cognitive and motor impairments, spastic paraparesis, macrocephaly, and other neurological symptoms that have deeply affected his quality of life.

The results revealed a variant of uncertain significance in the TUBA1A gene, which may be linked to a rare condition known as Lissencephaly Type 3—a severe brain development disorder. This condition can cause intellectual and physical disabilities, epilepsy, and structural brain abnormalities. While this discovery brings us one step closer to answers, it also opens the door to new questions, new tests, and very real financial strain.

Luka needs further specialized testing and ongoing neurological care, including:

Genetic analysis of both parents to determine if the variant is inherited or spontaneous

Advanced brain imaging and consultations with pediatric neurologists and geneticists

Therapy and treatments to support his development and quality of life

We are doing everything we can as a family to provide Luka with the care he needs, but the financial burden is overwhelming. Between testing, travel, therapy, and medical support, the costs are far beyond what we can manage alone.
