On Saturday, May 23rd, 2020 Luis Mendez was riding his bicycle on his way home from the market when he was struck by a car and left while the driver fled the scene. He was transported to VCMC where he underwent emergency surgery. He sustained major injuries including upper torso and facial lacerations, the breaking both of his legs and undergoing major reconstructive knee and feet surgeries.

We are grateful and thankful that Luis is alive but we know he is facing a long and difficult road ahead of him in pursuit of making a recovery. In light of these unforeseen tragic circumstances, we are hoping to alleviate some of the pain inflicted upon Luis and his family by offering a hand in facilitating the financial support necessary for his long recuperation.
We are in the early stages of his treatment and we don't know how long he will be required to stay in the hospital. He is currently under critical observation and we are receiving frequent updates because current COVID protocols prohibit any form of visitation from friends or family. We anticipate that he will be transferred to an assisted nursing facility for rehab and care. God willing, we hope that he will be able to walk again.
We are praying and trusting God to heal him and give him strength to recover.

We are grateful for any support that you are able to lend to his family during this difficult time. We ask that you please keep Luis in your prayers and help share his story, as we are still searching for any information that may lead to identifying his assailant. Please contact the Ventura County CHP at (805) [phone redacted] if you have any information that may help the investigation.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
