Help Luis Attend Berklee: Support a Young Singer

Hi!

My name is Luis Riveron, and I am an 18-year-old singer from Queens, New York City. These last couple of months, I've been applying and auditioning to many colleges and as I'm receiving my results back, I'm noticing that money is going to be a big struggle when it comes to attending college and with a single mother who all she does is try her best to support me in any way while supporting her elderly parents, handicapped brother, and herself, this can be a serious burden to carry, especially all alone. I want to try my best to relieve that stress a bit more by raising money to help ends meet.

My intended major in college is Music Education and Performance. I've been singing since I was a young age. Growing up, I always loved to sing at church, school, and even in the shower! Throughout my years in school, I've always been part of choirs and any community service events I could participate in. Middle school was the year I began to take music more seriously. I started my very own Glee Club where to this day I continue to lead (more about the Glee Club can be found here https://sites.google.com/view/227qgleeclub/home). After middle school, I was very honored to have been selected at Frank Sinatra School of the Arts as a Vocal Major where out of 3,000 applicants, only 30 were selected within my major. Over the past 4 years, I've strengthened my skills as a musician but also grown as a person. I've participated in many school events such as all Vocal Concerts, Vocal Studio and Musical Theatre Cabarets, Holiday Concerts, and Black History Month Concerts. I'm also seen in previous musicals at Frank Sinatra School of the Arts productions such as Titanic the Musical as John Thayer and 3rd Class passenger and the upcoming production of Sweeney Todd the Musical as Vocal Captain and Ensemble member. Currently, I serve as Student Body President and Senior Committee President and one of the head student ushers and student ambassadors!

Aside from being heavily involved in my school community, I've also participated in other organizations such as the Young People's Chorus of New York City where I served as a chorister for 2 years. We performed numerous times at venues such as Lincoln Center and United Palace. From there, I was selected at the B4: Black, Brown and Bound at Berklee College of Music (my dream school) as a student where I got a firsthand experience of what life as a music major in college is like. More recently, I was extremely lucky to have been selected into the Harmony Program at The Juilliard School where I got to be part of the Senior Chorus!

Music has played a very strong role in my life and I would love to keep studying more and take my knowledge farther, especially when it comes to becoming a music educator!

Which is why I am here today.

I recently got accepted to my DREAM SCHOOL, Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts! My heart really lies in that school and I can't really see myself elsewhere, but tuition is extremely high. So far, by the looks of it, the school itself hasn’t given me any money and I don't think my FAFSA or CSS would cover the remainder.

The littlest amount goes the longest way, and if you can't donate anything, please SHARE this page to ultimately help spread the word of my goal to more people.

Thank you so much,
Luis Riveron
