My name is Wendy, and I am writing this with a heavy heart on behalf of my brother, Luis, who just yesterday returned to find his home in smoke and ashes. A devastating fire burned through his belongings. Luckily, the fire was contained in his bedroom and no one was hurt. However, he lost everything in it, including bedroom furniture, important documents, desk, clothes, assistive electronic devices for the deaf, computer, printer, and other essentials.
My brother, Luis, is disabled, with a condition known as Ushers syndrome, resulting in profound deafness and blindness. In spite of his disability, Luis is a resilient, faithful, and dedicated single father of two teens, and an adult daughter. He is currently unemployed, and at the time of the fire, he was attending a job interview in Brooklyn. Unfortunately, his interview was interrupted by the devastating news. The children were safe at school, but their dog, a Frenchie named Rocky, was in the apartment, and suffered smoke inhalation. The management of the building has deemed the apartment unlivable, and will require repair that may take months to complete. He was given a temporary apartment in the meantime. My brother and his children are deeply loved by family and friends. The idea of replacing everything he lost is so overwhelming and near impossible.
We are asking for any support you can give - whether it's a donation, sharing this page, or keeping him in your prayers. Every contribution, big or small, will go directly toward helping my brother replace his essentials and get back on his feet.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and generosity during this difficult time.
